James Harvie Photography – Landscape Workshop Mornington Peninsula

001workshop.jpg002workshop.jpg003workshop.jpg004workshop.jpg005workshop.jpg006workshop.jpg

Last night we held a hands on Landscape Workshop at a special spot on the Mornington Peninsula. Conditions were great the tide was out so we began the shoot out across the rocks just about an hour prior sunset. As the tide began to ride in I helped each workshop participant to create dramatic images giving that beautiful cascading flow effect. It didn’t matter what level of photographer you are because this workshop was about helping improve your confidence and exploring new opportunities with the environment and camera. We shot right through till well after dusk, and showed how to use the Bulb setting and long long long exposures. The next part of the workshop will involve getting together in the studio and exploring the range of options in tweaking and pulling the most powerful results out of your images using Lightroom, Niksoftware and Adobe Photoshop.

Willow Creek Wedding – Diana & Cormac 11 February 2012

DSC_2713-Edit.jpgDSC_2837-Edit-Edit.jpgDSC_3366-Edit.jpgDSC_3379.jpgDSC_3463.jpg

Well did I hear someone say rain on your big day is good luck. Just as we gathered the guests after Diana and Cormac’s wedding ceremony at Willow Creek Winery the skies opened up. There I was perched up a Ladder giving my normal speel of bossy photographer directions for the group pics and down she came. A rounded lens head made matters all the worse. I mean we can expect this weather in November as it has delivered year after year but February. Okay back to the wedding . . . believe it or not rain can be great. It produces the wonderful wrap around effect and there is no hash squinting. Willow Creek has a beaut lake down the bottom if you can get to it. The vines are wonderful and there is a cute homestead that is an awesome backdrop for some classical shots. There’s also some wonderful coastal spots close by . . . but I’m only sharing this with those fortunate couples that book our services.

Morning Star Estate in Mt Eliza is where Jessica & Scott began their wedding Journey. Like always Morning Star Estate delivered the goods. Jessica used the Sun room for getting ready. I just love shooting those classical old worldly images against those grand windows. Morningstar Estate gardens are simply divine. You are really hard pushed to find a more perfect Mornington Peninsula wedding venue.

How to become a model

DSC_0288-Edit-2.jpgDSC_0462.jpgDSC_0500.jpgDSC_0506.jpgDSC_0524.jpgDSC_0526.jpgDSC_0724.jpgDSC_0740.jpg

So you have decided you want to become a model. Well one of the key components to sell yourself to modelling agencies is develop a model folio. A model folio is not just about shooting some nice pics. You need to think about what you think you could sell yourself as, and you know what, you don’t have to be beautiful or ripped. Your photographers job is to work with you exploring ideas with you. Its also great to show how versatile you can be. If you look good in a shirt or business look then get a business wardrobe together. Or if you’re after a surf beach look then get a bikini or board short gear happening. You don’t have to use a fancy studio. On location can help you relax and loosen up. I love to work with my clients trying different ideas and shooting different angles. It’s so important to make my client feel relaxed, fresh and confident.

WPPI Las Vegas 2011 – 3rd Place Winner landcape/Nature

WPPI Award
I’d read about the WPPI Awards held in Las Vegas USA for a while and like usual, procrastinated in entering. I’d seen some of the big players in the Photography industry win awards here and thought Id have a crack at it. Now this particular image had a lot of work done to it and after bombing out in the Victorian Professional Photographer of the year awards in 2011, I took note of the judges remarks. I was dumbfounded and so late one night, probably after too many red wines, I made some subtle changes. And bingo it looked great. So I entered it along with other prints ( yes they bombed, more work to be done there ) to test the water. 3rd place in the Landscape/Nature category for an International USA Photography competition. Well I’m totally stoked, wrapped, thrilled …. oh what ever… So thank you judges and friends for seeing the beauty and simplicity of this stunning image taken In Melbourne heading down towards the Peninsula. I hope you all appreciate its serenity in our fast paced competitive world. If by chance you want a copy shoot me an email james@harviephotography.com.au and I can get you a gorgeous canvas to hang on your wall.

This particular wedding was shot on one of those wet November days where the wind and rain just kept comming. However we bared the elements and what resulted was stunning images.

Tucks Ridge wedding

Tucks Ridge Vinyard for your wedding on the Mornington Peninsula offers a stunning vista with glorious views. What I like most about Tucks Ridge Estate is its simplicity and rustic charm. Also there are some awesome beaches close by that I love to whisk my clients away to for some amazing images. Not just close up couple shots, but the kind of images that blow your mind with stunning scenery. Many of my photography awards over the years are for landscape and illustrative images and I have always played this down…. after all I shoot weddings. Then a good photographer friend of mine mentioned amazing landscape wedding photography is a feature you should sell to your clients. Sometimes in life we need to step back and listen to others. So getting back to the point… if your wanting a boutique winery that is tucked away …. Tucks Ridge might be your answer.
